Summer Glau Lands Another Sci Fi Pilot
Geek and chic favorite, Summer Glau has been cast in a pilot for the potential new sci fi series The Cape. Sadly, given Glau's tragic track record, the show will surely be canceled. Despite the quality of the series and Summer's on point acting, sci-fi series Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and The 4400, all found the brilliant-but-canceled title. Glau also did a short stint on the now canceled Dollhouse. Fortunately, the "sci fi hottie" will make a go of it one more time in yet another series friendly to fans of comic book fare with The Cape. The Simon West-directed pilot follows a former police officer (David Lyons) who creates a masked alter-ego, the Cape, to clear his besmirched name. According to THR, “Glau will play Orwell, a cute and intrepid investigative blogger who fearlessly goes after corrupt cops and costumed bad guys”, making sure to add, “And yes, she gets physical and is quite capable of kicking ass.”

I thought she was pretty good as the Terminator Cameron, was bummed when the show got cancelled. Hopefully this one is decent and gains an audience.
I loved T: SCC, Firefly and The 4400, I was extremely upset when they were canceled. It seems so hard for a sci fi show to break through to the mainstream or at the very least get more than 1 or 2 seasons. I think about the decades that Doctor Who has been on the air and wish some of these shows could at least be given 5 years. For me 5-6 seasons is a perfect story arc, otherwise things get repetitive and sometimes desperate. But, even the shows that have broken through like LOST and Heroes have hit series lows in ratings. Although, it does seem like the big 4.5 networks (yes, The CW only counts as a half) are embracing or at least willing to try out more "Genre" shows than in the past.
