Simon Cowell Thinks He's Too Mean

Simon Cowell is having a weird born again moment.  Cowell now thinks he is too mean in his contestant critiques.  "There's many, many times where I've watched the show back and I'm absolutely appalled," Cowell, 50, says during an upcoming interview on "Piers Morgan's Life Stories." "You do the show, you're not aware of what's happening in the room outside. You know, somebody just said, ‘My dog Lassie died yesterday,' I'm in a bad mood and, you know, awful, and you see it in that context, it's very, very difficult to watch."  After 10 years and several international shows with thousands of episodes, Simon is just realizing this now?  I'm calling shenanigans.  Grow a set Cowell.  The only reason why he has been publicly popular for the past decade is because of his frank and sometimes harsh critique of the contestants.  The judges are "cast" just as much as the contestants.  No one would tune in to listen to 4 hacks gush over performances that are often not at a superstar level.  More importantly, some people need to be told in a brutal way for it to sink in that some things just might night be for them.  So, Shut it Cowell.  Now you are just being self-indulgent.

To be honest, I think the only one approaching honest amongst American Idol judges is Simon- the rest mask any real or relevant criticism with a little too much kissing up. The other night was not…horrible. The Crystal Bowersox performance wasn't bad, but so far I REALLY like Lilly Scott. Scott will be easily one of the most distinctive of the current female singers. I predict one of the women will win this year.

Simon has to be mean in order for the contestants to know the real truth about their performances. A true judge must not restrain himself to say his criticism because he only do it for the best of the criticisms’ subject. Well, American Idol had a minor shake up and the Girls Night was postponed because one of the contestants, Crystal Bowersox had complications due to her diabetes and had to go to the hospital. She's alright now, and cleared to sing.

When people are in the music industry they have to learn to take criticism, I think Simon has a responsibility to be honest. And we all know the truth hurts sometimes.
