Lily Allen Makes A Crazy Career Change
Let the countdown until she fades away into oblivion begin. After one failed attempt at television, Lily Allen gives up everything to try again. Lily Allen, who appeared on the canceled BBC Three show Lily and Friends, is filming a reality TV show about her crazy career change from singer to shop owner. The show is reported to discuss the new clothing store Lucy in Disguise which she has partnered with her sister. But she isn't stopping there. Allen posted a message on Twitter, saying: "Now that I've retired, I'm gonna try and get on Come Dine With Me." She wrote: "I'm making chicken, tarragon and leek pie tonight. Yum." 'Come Dine With Me' narrator Dave Lamb reportedly tweeted Allen offering to help her get on the cooking show, where contestants compete to host the best dinner party. Note to Lily: You are supposed to PROGRESS your career.
Last fall, Lily Allen announced that she will not be recording a follow up to her multi-platinum sophomore album It's Not Me, It's You. "It's not retiring. I'm just doing a different job for a bit. I'm having a career change. I just want to stay in London for a while. It's not a particularly healthy lifestyle being on the road." That hasn't stopped her setting up a new record label, which will also feature in the show. "I think things need to change in the music industry and we need to rethink a lot of stuff," she said.
"The days of me making money from recording music have been and gone as far as I'm concerned," she wrote in her blog. Right. Lily meet American Idol winner Carrie Underwood who made $14 million last year or Britain's Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle who is estimated to make $7 million this year. Given, those figures are not just record sales but neither would have the endorsements without music.
Lily is battling the current trends of the digital generation. “People don't buy music anymore, they download it and want their content for free" she says. Allen recognizes the bulk of money to be made by an artist comes from the live appearances but is unwilling to live that life. Allen explains, "The thing that makes you your money is touring and I don't really want to tie myself down to being on the road for three years. I've got a boyfriend and I've got a house and I'd quite like to have children soon. So it doesn't really work into those plans."
