Has Paula Abdul Finally Found Work?
Paula Abdul, our favorite alleged pill popping princess, is apparently heading back to the competitive reality stage. According to EW’s The Ausiello Files, the alphabet network had been wooing the 47-year-old ex-Lakers cheerleader since last year when she officially announced her exit from the Fox reality show. The "Straight Up" singer was originally rumored to be appearing on the network's smash "Dancing With the Stars" but instead landed in a gig on the "Star Search" remake.
It wasn't immediately clear what Abdul's duties will be on "Star Search," but Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello speculated it would be a mix of hosting and judging. ABC refused to comment to EW.
The former choreographer and singer recently hosted the VH1 Divas special, though she has shied away from other television appearances. Star Search would mark Abdul's first permanent gig since departing from Idol last year. Simon Cowell, who will also be leaving “Idol” after the current season, has also allegedly asked her to join his planned US version of “The X Factor.” However, there is no official word on the validity or if it will even be realized by the premiere in 2011.
“Star Search,” which originated in 1983 with host Ed McMahon, was revived in 2002 with host Arsenio Hall. It was axed in 2004. The upcoming version is slated for a summer debut.
