ABC Family Lands The Blind Side and Alice In Wonderland

Along with being in the news all weekend with a signal blackout before the Oscars just to reconnect fifteen minutes into the broadcast, Disney is making more headlines.  The company has acquired the rights to two of the hottest Hollywood commodities.  Sibling cable network ABC Family has acquired the rights to Tim Burton's 3D fantasy Alice in Wonderland and John Lee Hancock’s inspirational blockbuster The Blind Side.

“Feature films are an integral part of the formula for a successful cable service, and ABC Family has created a terrific destination where Warner Bros. movies have thrived,” Warner Bros.’ President of Domestic Television Distribution Ken Werner said in a press release. “

Financial information was not disclosed, but an opening of that caliber normally fetches about $24 million. ABC Family's small slate of acquired features also includes the "Harry Potter" franchise.
